Tips on customizing led display for countries which are in low temperature all the year round.

Some countries and areas are yearlong under temperature of below 0℃ and at night time it can be below -30℃. When a LED display is running in this extreme cold environment, it occurs that the display can’t be powered on.

Winter is a long ordeal for outdoor LED display because of the different coefficient of heat bilges cold shrink of the various LED display raw materials, their physical change sizes are different in temperature of below -20℃. It will cause  crack or squeeze bulge between modules, vitiate the screen waterproof and dustproof functions and cause obvious mosaic appearance. Besides, in extreme cold weather, some electron components can’t work properly and this will make the whole screen can’t work properly.

Optokingdom has a completed extreme temperature environment simulation test system to make sure our outdoor LED display have passed the -45℃~50℃ simulation temperature test before they are delivered. We make full consideration of the possible extreme environment that our LED display will experience in future and design the corresponding measures in advance, no matter the led iron cabinets, led lamps and electron components or the display back shell are selected under professional screening. 1.low temperature power supply:
high-end power supply brands:
Japanese TDK power supply (ultra-low temperature -40℃, common temperature -30℃)
Taiwan Meanwell power supply (ultra-low temperature -20℃, common temperature -10℃)
mid-end power supply brands:
Chinese Chuanglian power supply (ultra-low temperature -35℃, low temperature -25℃, common temperature -10℃)
Chinese Xinxing power supply (common temperature -40℃)

When the environment temperature is close to the extreme working temperature of the power supply (for examples -35℃ when using Chuanglian ultra-low temperature power supply), its loading power derating will be about 50%. 

2.Equipping  with hot air curtain into the display
Make an enclosed space behind the display and equip with hot air curtain inside,  do remote control to the hot air curtain. When environment temperature is below the minimum setting temperature, the hot air curtain will work to warm the display then the display can be powered on. When the environment temperature reaches the temperature setting, temperature control system will cut off alternating current supply to hot air curtain.

3.“three proofing” processing to power supply and PCB
Outdoor led display are installed in open air environment for long time, it needs good temperature resistance, waterproof, anti-mist and anticorrosion performance on the printed circuit boards, power supply and solder joints, etc. “Three proofing” means to do protection measures on the three parts with conformal coating to ensure their long life, safety and reliability. The conformal coating can form a light and flexible layer with only 25 to 50 microns thickness on the PBC. It can protect the circuit from chemicals( such as fuel, coolant, etc), shock, moisture, salt spray, humidity and temperature change. If don’t use the conformal coating, the PBC will break down because of the corrosion,  mould growth and short circuit. Our principles are making strict prevention processing control to the display which have long lifespan, number of components and are used in extreme environment. Besides, we use current-carrying welding technology to eliminate damage of manual solder to the “three proofing” processing.

4.Cold resistance cabinets
Many people desire to go to North China but the environment is a challenge to LED display because the temperature usually gets below -30℃. The low temperature will case shrinkage on cabinets because of dilatation thermique phenomenon, as a result, it will enlarge the cracks between cabinets and even make the led lamps are not in a line, the whole screen is turned into pieces of mosaic.

According to our experience, cabinets which are made of high quality steel plate with hot dip zinc process have  rust removing effect because of the surface treatment of cleaning and polishing during the production process. The cabinets also have surface oxidation and corrosion prevention functions because of the oxide galvanized processing and the surface bake lacquer or acid fat proof coating processing.

5.Special materials for low temperature environment
The prerequisite of good quality led display is the good quality components, because any advanced equipments and production process won’t make high quality products without high quality raw material. Thus, all the important parts in our products are with high quality raw material especial for the electronic components, see details as below:

PCB are with level 1 board
Import Taiwan brand high performance cold resistance led lamps
Plastic components are with Japanese Teijin or United States GE high performance engineering materials, working temperature range is -40℃—+120℃.
Driver chip is Taiwan Gather brand MBI5024.
The high weather resistance wire skin is  with national standard silicone material.
Using high weather resistance black silicone for waterproof processing.
Using Japanese brand capacitance and resistance, such as Sanyo, Murata and so on.

6.Antifreeze epoxy resin
We use glycidyl ester type epoxy resin as antifreeze epoxy resin, compared with the phenolic groups propane epoxy resin it has more advantages of lower viscosity, better manufacturability, higher reaction activity, better adhesive force than epoxy resin, better curing material performance, better electrical insulation property, better weather resistance and better ultra-low temperature resistance.  In a word, the glycidyl ester type epoxy resin has good surface gloss, translucency and weather resistance.
